A leg neurorehabilitation room will be opened at the "Vetraź" children's center in Postavy district

A leg neurorehabilitation room will be opened today at the "Vetraz" children's rehabilitation center in the Postavy district. The chief physician of the healthcare institution, Sergey Petukhov, informed a BELTA correspondent about this.
The room is equipped with the "Korvit" sole simulator of support load and the "Treadmill" apparatus. The equipment was purchased under the "Joy of Movement" program, which is implemented jointly with the International Charitable Foundation for Children's Aid "Chance".

"We purchased a second set of the 'Korvit' complex – the method is effective and in demand. In one session, we have about 20-25 children with health peculiarities, up to 80% of them are children with cerebral palsy. Therefore, we considered it necessary to include a second set of such equipment in this program (what we call 'space boots' and 'Treadmill') – this is a device for neurorehabilitation of the lower extremities with interactive equipment, when the treadmill speed is programmed, there are harnesses to reduce vertical load. Being in these harnesses, one can model a child's gait, develop the walking reflex. The essence of the room is as follows: with the help of the support load simulator, we form a reflex in the child, and then we work out the sensory model of walking on the 'Treadmill'. The total cost of the equipment is about Br200 thousand," the chief physician explained.

By the way, the first "Korvit" apparatus at the center began to be used in the spring of last year. During this time, more than 40 children underwent rehabilitation under the program. The new equipment will work in addition and will allow more patients to recover, and do it more effectively.

"The number of patients with cerebral palsy is not decreasing, and a large number of children need help. To enable more children to undergo rehabilitation, the issue can be resolved in two ways: either by increasing staff (which is difficult now, especially in rural areas, as the training of each specialist is not quick), or with the help of innovative equipment. That is, an important issue is being resolved here – increasing throughput and efficiency. We can also slightly reduce the physical workload of the staff. It's one thing when an exercise therapist has to lead a child in front of them and hold them, and another when there is an innovative device, unloading suspension systems, which can reduce the physical load for the instructor. Accordingly, we increase their performance during the working day," concluded Sergey Petukhov.
