On time and to a high standard

The sowing campaign is nearing completion in the Vitebsk region. The main work was completed within the optimal timeframe – as planned, by the beginning of the second ten-day period of May. Despite a late start in the fields, the agricultural producers of the Dvina region managed to complete the sowing of early spring crops in a record short time and, effectively together with other regions, finished the sowing, while carrying out the largest volume of work in terms of area. As reported to "NS" by the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee, this year's sowing campaign has become the fastest in recent years. Due to the late spring, it was possible to adhere to the optimal sowing periods and prevent losses thanks to the maximum mobilization of resources, technical equipment, and high organization of the production process. As of May 13, approximately 220 thousand hectares of early spring grain crops have been sown, which is about 105% of the plan (for comparison, 145 thousand hectares have been sown in the Gomel region). Currently, the focus is on the high-quality execution of crop care, the completion of flax sowing (as of May 15, 15.3 thousand hectares, or 76.6% of the plan, have been sown), corn (24.6%), potatoes (31.4%), and vegetables, as well as on preparation for fodder harvesting, which is expected to begin at the end of May.
