The quality of pre-conscription training for adolescents needs to be improved - A. Kosinets

May 7, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. The quality of pre-conscription training for adolescents needs to be improved in general education schools. This opinion was expressed today to journalists by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, BELTA correspondent reports. According to the governor, pre-conscription training is currently conducted mainly theoretically, so adolescents do not acquire the necessary skills, including in matters of life safety. As an example, Alexander Kosinets cited the initial military training course that existed until the early 1990s. In the initial military training classes, young people had the opportunity to learn about various explosive devices, which were presented in the form of mock-ups and models. Subsequently, such training aids were removed from schools. In 2010 alone, such training aids were completely removed from 126 schools in the region, but after an inventory of the material and technical base, it is planned to return them to educational institutions to restore elective classes similar to the previously existing initial military training. The recent tragedy in Liozno, where an 11-year-old boy died from the explosion of a shell from the Great Patriotic War, indicates the need for practical knowledge in pre-conscription training. "We must show children what such explosive finds are," believes Alexander Kosinets. In 2010 alone, about 8.56 thousand various aerial bombs, shells, mines, and grenades from the Great Patriotic War were neutralized in the Vitebsk region. In addition, today, events are being held in museum institutions of the region to inventory and confiscate items and exhibits that may pose a danger. Alexander Kosinets emphasized that the heads of educational institutions and other organizations must bear serious responsibility for the state of the material and technical base of the institutions. Based on the results of the work carried out in identifying shortcomings related to organization and economic management, strict and consistent measures will be taken to establish order in this area. -0-
