What will the first memorial sign in honor of border guards in Polotsk look like?

As reported by the official representative of the Polotsk Border Detachment, Lieutenant Colonel Denis Glebko, Honored Architect of the Republic of Belarus Yuri Gradov, one of the creators of the Khatyn memorial complex, and Dmitry Oganov, a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists and sculptor, have joined the implementation of the project initiated by the command of the border detachment.

The memorial sign, made of decorative concrete with marble chips and bronze elements, is a 4-meter stele in the form of a border post with the coat of arms of the Republic of Belarus. It is crowned with a three-dimensional image of a falcon, symbolizing a border guard – a vigilant guardian of the state's borders. The image of the border, the inseparable connection of the present with the past, is read in the horizontal part of the composition. In its center is a bas-relief copy of a painting by Napoleon Orda, which depicts the St. Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk; on the sides are emblems of the Polotsk Border Detachment and the Border Service of the Republic of Belarus. The estimated cost of the work is 132 thousand rubles. The proposed installation site is the territory of the "Kurgan of Immortality" memorial complex in Polotsk.

The creation of the sculptural and monumental composition is funded by voluntary donations from military personnel, civilian staff of the military unit, and veterans of the border service. Organizations and enterprises of the region also provided assistance. In particular, representatives of the Polotsk city organization of the public association "Belarusian Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan" (Chairman Fyodor Yeskov), Yujgen LLC (Director Vladimir Rogovnev), and the Polotsk Vodokanal branch of UP Vitebskoblvodo canal (Director Alexander Felisov) have already made their contributions.
