Just like in Copenhagen, Lepel could have its own Little Mermaid as a landmark

September 2, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Lepel may have its own Little Mermaid, just like Copenhagen. The first park sculpture will appear in the district center on the day of the celebration of the 570th anniversary of the city's mention in the chronicles, the head of the ideological work department of the Lepel District Executive Committee, Igor Urban, told a BELTA correspondent. The choice of the Little Mermaid was not accidental. Although the people of Lepel, like the Danes, love the famous fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, the image of the Lepel water maiden is inspired by local legends. That is why she will be seated not on a stone, but on a stump in the park by the lake, and will hold a water lily in her hands. The sculpture was made by Belarusian master carver Igor Golubev. The Lepel Little Mermaid will appear in all her glory on September 12, when the festive date is celebrated. In addition to the opening of the sculptural composition, concerts, game shows, and exhibitions-sales of Belarusian goods and folk crafts await the people of Lepel and guests of the city. Auto enthusiasts from DOSAAF and Vitebsk paratroopers are preparing a gift for the jubilee city. -0-
