How has the Vitebsk region changed over the three Years of the Small Motherland
Year after year, our large and small cities, agro-towns, and villages are improving. New parks are being planted, schools and hospitals are being renovated, housing is being built, stadiums and kindergartens are being constructed. The trilogy of the Year of Small Motherlands, aimed at improving the quality of life for Belarusians regardless of their place of residence, has significantly contributed to this. Therefore, no sphere has been left unattended. In the Vitebsk region, even facilities that were on the list of long-term construction projects for various reasons were completed over three years.
The most significant event was the commissioning of secondary school No. 47 in Vitebsk for the new academic year 2020/21. This school has no analogues in the region: three buildings, two swimming pools, various modern playgrounds, classrooms, and school workshops with the latest equipment.
The new institution is designed for 1020 students, but twice as many children study there in two shifts.
Many district hospitals and polyclinics have received modern equipment to improve the accessibility of high-tech examinations for residents of rural areas. The modernization also affected the regional hospital for disabled veterans of the Great Patriotic War "Yurtsevo." This healthcare facility is now equipped with all the necessary equipment.
Thanks to the decree of the Head of State, the long-awaited opening of a new hospital in Miory took place in 2018. Also, after many years since the start of construction, the polyclinic in the Yug-7 microdistrict of Vitebsk and the therapeutic building of the Orsha City Hospital No. 1 opened their doors.
In 2019, a modern Trampoline Centre was opened. The Vitebsk Trampoline School has existed for almost half a century, and its students have shown serious results since the 1970s. It has launched many champions, but Vladislav Goncharov achieved the most resounding success – he became an Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. After his victory in Brazil, hundreds of boys and girls enrolled in Children's and Youth Sports School No. 1 in Vitebsk.
"With the opening of the specialized Trampoline Centre, this sport in Vitebsk is experiencing a real boom!" notes Svetlana Pashkovskaya, director of the sports school.
Among the long-awaited sports facilities is the renovated ice palace in Novopolotsk.

A third of the industrial products manufactured in the Vitebsk region are innovative. Keeping up with the times is facilitated by the modernization of enterprises, which has intensified in recent years. Two factories of the Orsha Linen Mill have been modernized, enterprises of the Marco holding have been improved, and productionVitebsk Radio Components Plant "Monolit" is the largest producer of ceramic capacitors in the CIS and the only one in our country. Modernization means a new product range, expansion of supply geography, growth in export volume, as well as profits and employee wages.
The Vitebsk and Polotsk hydroelectric power plants have been commissioned (their operation reduces the consumption of imported natural gas), as well as the multimodal industrial and logistics center "Bremno-Orsha" in the urban settlement of Bolbasovo, Orsha district. It is intended to become the largest cargo transshipment point where road, rail, and air transport meet.

"Vitebsk Broiler Poultry Farm" in "Kurino" has been expanded with a grain cleaning and drying complex, a grain and rapeseed storage elevator, an oilseed processing line, and the "Yanovichi" grain cleaning and drying complex, as well as new and reconstructed dairy farms and complexes. The agricultural enterprise "MazolovoGaz" has opened an oilseed processing plant. Now, rapeseed meal, which is added to compound feed as a protein source, is produced on the farm. In addition, the plant produces rapeseed oil, which is an additional source of income.
Dozens of livestock facilities have been built and reconstructed in the Vitebsk region. In addition, four new-type pig breeding complexes will be created, consisting of a breeding farm and a feed mill. In the breeding farms, young pigs will be grown to a weight of 30 kilograms and then distributed for fattening to other pig complexes in the region.
— According to this cultivation technology, the weight gains here are planned to be twice as high as we have today. A shortage of pork also leads to an increase in the cost of products. S"Lowering the price will increase the competitiveness of our meat products," is convinced Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev.
The development of infrastructure, quality housing, social facilities, places for entertainment and recreation attract urban youth to the countryside, closer to nature. The trilogy of the Year of Small Motherland has made it possible to feel a special connection with one's native land, with one's origins, which inspire and give energy for fruitful work.

And not only Belarusians. French chef Boris Paul Georges Boignard married a Belarusian girl and moved with her to the village of Strazhevichi, Chashniksky district – now they know the French taste of grape snails there.
"In France, snails can only be collected for two months a year, and here they are after every rain – a lot! In two hours, I gather four buckets, 150 meters from home," Boris Boignard says with admiration. "Welcome – try it!"
State Priorities
The support for education, to which a third of the Vitebsk region's budget is allocated annually, has always been a constant priority for the state, ensuring that children receive a decent education and engage in physical culture and sports. In recent years, not only kindergartens and schools have been repaired, but new ones have also been built. The "School of the Future" project, implemented in Tolochin, Dubrovno, Verkhnedvinsk, and Braslav districts, has allowed educational institutions to be re-equipped with the latest technology. The most significant event was the commissioning of secondary school No. 47 in Vitebsk for the new academic year 2020/21. Where Stars Shine
Every year, new sports halls, swimming pools, and stadiums were commissioned in the region. A new biathlon base was opened in Senno.talented coaches have trained more than one outstanding athlete, and graduates of the Sennenskaya Children's and Youth Sports School are included in national teams. The mentor of the biathletes is Valery Lektorov, a coach at the Sennenskaya Children's and Youth Sports School, who has been involved in sports training for schoolchildren in Senno for 38 years and was awarded the special prize of the President of Belarus "Belarusian Sports Olympus" in 2020.In 2019, a modern Trampoline Centre was opened. Not Just for Themselves
There are many enterprises in the region to be proud of. Among them are new productions, the creation of which leads to the development of the entire district. A prime example is the tinplate rolling mill launched last year in Miory. This product has no analogues in Belarus or the entire post-Soviet space, and there are few similar enterprises in the world. Now, housing is being actively built in the city, which is in demand as never before. Not only natives of this region are returning here, but also people are relocating from other regions of Belarus, as well as Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan.

Increase Competitiveness
The agro-industrial complex of the Vitebsk region, by reconstructing existing facilities and building new ones, strives to increase the competitiveness of its products."Vitebsk Broiler Poultry Farm" in "Kurino" has been expanded with a grain cleaning and drying complex, a grain and rapeseed storage elevator, an oilseed processing line, and the "Yanovichi" grain cleaning and drying complex, as well as new and reconstructed dairy farms and complexes. Welcome!
The overpass "Polotsk" in Vitebsk, "which we are leaving to our Slavic city for centuries," was called by the President at the opening ceremony. The interchange was reconstructed in 20 months instead of the planned four years. And a bridge was commissioned in Polotsk: instead of a construction period of at least two years, the builders finished twice as fast. A bridge in Ushachi has also been repaired. The development of infrastructure, quality housing, social facilities, places for entertainment and recreation attract urban youth to the countryside, closer to nature.
