How a student of VSMU became a delegate of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly
A first-year student of the Vitebsk State Order of Peoples' Friendship Medical University, Elizaveta Ivanova, became one of the youngest delegates to the VII All-Belarusian People's Assembly. The Vitebsk resident shared her expectations for the upcoming Assembly and spoke about how her passion for science opened the door to a world of great opportunities, showing that life is not limited to studies.
For the 18-year-old Vitebsk resident, the chance to be among the Assembly delegates initially seemed both very tempting and elusive, as many worthy candidates from among the youth were nominated. Nevertheless, Elizaveta believed in her lucky star, which did not let her down. The current student of VSMMU was noticed thanks to her projects and passion for science. Back in the 10th grade, she began research, and in two years wrote eight scientific papers, one of which was a project that reached the republican stage of the youth project "100 Ideas for Belarus," through which she joined the ranks of the BRSM. Together with her scientific advisor, Elizaveta developed a sensory glove for people with disabilities. With the help of this device and a mobile application, it is possible to "translate" sign language.
"When I presented this project at the regional stage of '100 Ideas for Belarus,' I saw how many young people are engaged in more than just studies. Until then, I was immersed in lessons, music, and dancing, and I thought such a range of interests was quite common for my peers. The competition was an eye-opener, not only in terms of the diversity of creative and non-trivial ideas that young people bring to it, but also in terms of communication. Young people approached me – both participants and spectators of the competition – suggesting how my project could be developed and expanded. For example, they proposed adding a learning element, meaning not only recognizing sign language through the sensory glove but also learning it with its help. This is very inspiring and energizes me to improve the development," shared Elizaveta.
For now, in her first year, she is absorbed in her studies, but the desire to work on the project has not faded. She is exploring what can be added to her early version, and then, when she forms a more global plan for the implementation of the sensory glove in production and an economic justification for the release of such products, she will return to her idea.
Speaking about the upcoming VNS, the future medic said that she remembered in detail the day she was elected a delegate to such a significant event for the entire country. The excitement she initially felt was replaced by joy and the realization that she now bore great responsibility. "Such trust has greatly spurred me on, and I believe that now I need not only to live up to the hopes of the people who voted for me, but also to be brave and proactive. If I felt any fear before, now I am confident in my abilities, the main thing is to move forward and not give up," noted the Vitebsk resident.

At the VII All-Belarusian People's Assembly, which will take place on April 24 and 25, a VSMU student hopes to hear important messages from the President and exchange innovative ideas with young people. "Since I am a future doctor, I am interested in projects for the implementation of modern technologies in medicine. This is very important for the development and improvement of the field in which I will work. It is also interesting whether the age limit for the youth category will be increased, how the state will continue its social policy in supporting families, how we, the youth, can help Belarus become more progressive, because we have many talented young people who want and can promote good ideas for the country's development. I think participating in the VNS will help me broaden my range of interests and understand how I can benefit both my hometown and my state," emphasized Elizaveta Ivanova.
