How utility workers clear roads and sidewalks in Vitebsk

The elements are not allowing Vitebsk utility services to relax, as they are working around the clock to clear roads and sidewalks.
Equipment from state enterprises "Gordormost", ZhRET of the regional center, and involved organizations are clearing streets and sidewalks of snow around the clock, and treating them with a sand-salt mixture. Workers are clearing places inaccessible to machinery manually.

– Today, 225 of our workers have been deployed to clear adjacent territories. Priority is given to clearing entrances, stairs, and sidewalks of snow. 17 units of equipment are clearing passages and entrances to courtyards from the consequences of the elements, – noted Galina Dervoed, First Deputy Head of the state enterprise "ZhRET of Vitebsk".

Employees of "Gordormost" and involved organizations are also maintaining their pace. According to Sergey Starovoytov, Chief Engineer of the enterprise, 28 units of "Gordormost" equipment and 37 units from involved organizations are "fighting" snow today. 670 cubic meters of snow were removed during the daytime shift yesterday.
– On November 29, 97 people are involved in manual snow removal. 26 units of equipment will be operating at night, – added Sergey Starovoytov.

Despite the shortage of equipment and personnel for clearing snow in courtyards, near private sectors, and on the outskirts of the regional center, it is gratifying to note that Vitebsk residents and volunteers have started to arm themselves with shovels and clear areas of the snowy elements.

As reported by the regional committee of BRSM, over 80 volunteers from the northern region are clearing snow from adjacent territories, sidewalks, and memorial sites daily. Youth volunteer brigades are assisting elderly people living alone who are unable to clear their courtyards on their own.

– Hotlines were launched in all districts of the region in October. BRSM volunteers helped in solving everyday issues: cleaning and preparing housing for winter, chopping and stacking firewood, harvesting, and delivering agricultural products. Assistance in clearing snow from courtyards has been organized since November 23. More than 30 applications have been received, – noted the regional committee of BRSM. – Calls to territorial committees are accepted from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays.
