How to behave during strong winds, hurricanes, and thunderstorms

Как вести себя во время сильного ветра, урагана и грозы
To ensure that the manifestations of natural forces do not catch you off guard, remember and follow the rules of conduct during bad weather.

– If strong wind catches you indoors, move away from windows and take a safe place near the walls of internal premises, in a corridor, near built-in wardrobes, in bathrooms, toilets, pantries, in sturdy wardrobes, under tables;

– extinguish the fire in the stove, turn off the electricity, close the valves on the gas mains. In the dark, use flashlights, lamps, candles; turn on a radio receiver for additional information;

– if a hurricane catches you on the street, stay as far away as possible from light structures, buildings, bridges, overpasses, power lines, masts, trees, rivers, lakes, and industrial facilities;

– to protect yourself from flying debris and glass fragments, use sheets of plywood, cardboard and plastic boxes, boards and other improvised means;

– try to take shelter as quickly as possible in basements, cellars, and shelters available in populated areas;

– do not enter damaged buildings, as they may collapse with new gusts of wind;

– if you find yourself in a field or on a country road, head for main roads, which are periodically cleared and where there is a high probability of receiving help;

– during lightning strikes, do not come close to electrical wiring, lightning rods, roof drains, antennas, do not stand near windows, turn off the TV, computer, and other household electrical appliances in the house;

– if a thunderstorm catches you in the forest, take shelter in a low-growing area of the forest. Do not hide near tall trees, especially under pines, oaks, poplars;

– if you were on the beach, get out of the water, move away from the shore and descend from a high place to a low one;

– when in a field, in the absence of shelter, do not lie on the ground, exposing your entire body to electric current, but squat in a hollow, ravine, or other natural depression, hugging your legs with your hands.
