How Vitebsk will celebrate City Day, reported in the Vitebsk Oblast Media Center

Как Витебск отпразднует День города, рассказали в Медиацентре Витебской области
About what has been done in Vitebsk, and even more so about what awaits residents and guests of the regional center during the City Day celebrations, was discussed today at the Media Center of the Vitebsk Region.

The reason for the meeting was an important date. Soon, many events will be held dedicated to the 79th anniversary of the liberation of Vitebsk from the Nazi invaders, as well as the 1049th anniversary of the city. The Chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee Nikolai Orlov, his deputy Viktor Glushin, General Director of the Vitebsk Culture Center, Director of the Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk International Arts Festival Gleb Lapitsky, First Secretary of the City Committee of the Belarusian Youth Union Artur Vitol, and heads of several structural divisions of the city executive committee spoke about the preparations for City Day and the interesting and important projects that will be implemented as part of the holiday.

The scale of the upcoming events is impressive. Judging by the number of concerts, competitions, diverse events, exhibitions, and interactive platforms, it is unlikely that anyone will be able to attend everything, even though all this will take place over several days, from June 23 to 26. But everyone has a chance to find something exciting for themselves and fully immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere.

— The first thing I will say is how extraordinary, how stunningly beautiful our Vitebsk is, — Nikolai Orlov began his story about the preparations for the celebrations. — One probably needs to simply love their city to overlook certain rough edges and see the big, the important things that are happening in it now.

The Chairman of the City Executive Committee emphasized the efforts aimed at making the regional center bloom with flowers. He also specifically addressed the repair of the road network.

— There were many complaints when preparations for City Day and the Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk began, — he noted.

According to him, many motorists and pedestrians expressed claims to the city authorities due to the condition of the roads. But the changes for the better are obvious.

— By City Day, the asphalting and landscaping of the territory from "Pravda" to Moskovsky Prospekt and Tereshkova Street will be completed, — commented Nikolay Orlov. He added that Maxim Gorky Street near the River Port has already been put in order, and a new asphalt surface has been laid on a rather large section of Lazo Street. Road work has affected Frunze Avenue and Chapayev Street. And streets in the private sector are being covered with old asphalt granulate.

— This is a definite step towards ensuring comfortable conditions for our citizens, — emphasized the chairman of the city executive committee.

He also called on all residents, enterprises, and organizations to contribute to the improvement of Vitebsk and actively participate in the city subbotnik (volunteer work day) announced for June 17.

— Respond to this offer. Find objects to your liking, do it sincerely and with desire. Then the message that our city is the most beautiful will truly be undeniable, — said Nikolay Orlov.

As for the holiday itself, among the events scheduled for the first day are the awarding of the city prize "Vitebsk Citizen of the Year" and a performance by the group "Na-Na" on the stage of the Summer Amphitheater, the opening of a monumental and decorative sculpture in front of the Regional Museum of Local Lore, a presentation of works by participants of the "PhotoKrok" International Festival in Duhovskoy Kruglik, a circus performance by Honored Artist of Russia Nikolay Chelnokov at the Museum of the History of Private Collections on Frunze Avenue, a car rally, and a car exhibition. On June 24, events dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the Vitebsk tram are planned, including the opening of the 1000th Anniversary of Vitebsk Park after reconstruction, an extensive cultural and entertainment program on the central streets, "The Square in the Seven Winds," free thematic excursions, competitions in moto gymkhana on the site under the Polotsk overpass, a historical reconstruction festival on the territory of the Recreation Complex named after the Soviet Army, a concert with the participation of Teo and Olga Ryzhikova on the stage of Victory Square, and a festive fireworks display.

On Sunday, Belarus celebrates Youth and Student Day, which will be the focus of many festive events. In particular, starting from 12:00 PM, participants of the regional tour of the national festival-competition "Fire of Youth Talents" will kick off in the center of Vitebsk, interactive platforms will open, and in the evening, a DJ battle will take place. However, there are many other interesting events planned besides Youth Day.

A detailed program of the celebration will soon appear on the streets of Vitebsk and at public transport stops, as well as on our website. Study it carefully so as not to regret missing the most exciting projects later.
