What professions are most in demand in Vitebsk?

In the Vitebsk region, the demand for qualified specialists has increased from 21% to 38.3% in a year and a half. This was reported at a meeting of the committee for labor, employment, and social protection of the regional executive committee by Irina Matveeva, deputy chairperson of the committee and head of the population employment department.

The most in-demand professions currently are: seamstress, car driver, cook, hairdresser, sales assistant, various types of mechanics, and electrical fitter for repair and maintenance of electrical equipment. Among specialists and employees, there is a constant demand for accountants, engineers, nurses, and doctors. In rural areas, demand is for tractor drivers, milking machine operators, livestock breeders, and veterinarians.

Over the year, the number of vacancies declared by employers has halved, from 5380 to 2446 jobs, while the number of registered unemployed has doubled to 7121 people as of July 1.

– Many long-term unemployed were prompted to find employment by Presidential Decree No. 3 "On the Prevention of Social Dependency." Today, they constitute 23% of the total number of registered unemployed, which is 20% more compared to last year, – noted Irina Viktorovna.

The unemployment rate as of July 1 was 1.3% of the economically active population (compared to 0.7% as of June 1, 2014, and January 1, 2015).

Nevertheless, in 2015, 7.9 thousand unemployed were employed in permanent jobs, training was organized for 969 people, 157 citizens were assisted in starting entrepreneurial activities, and 34 families were relocated to new places of residence and work.

To prevent further growth in the unemployment rate, employment service employees must organize preliminary reference, information, and consulting assistance to citizens, concluded Irina Matveeva.
