Tollachinsky Cannery will start producing french fries

A quick-freezing workshop will be commissioned in the first quarter of 2021 at RUP "Tolochinsky Cannery".

— We will produce semi-finished products – french fries from our own raw materials using domestic innovative liaisining technology. This is a high value-added product, — said plant director Anatoly Anyukhovsky. — It is surprising, but having a huge amount of potatoes in Belarus, we still import some products made from it from abroad. The creation of such a production will not only ensure import substitution but also expand the geography of export supplies. The production capacity of the line is 3.64 thousand tons per year, and can be doubled if necessary.

At the beginning of next year, commissioning work will be completed at the new facility with the participation of representatives of Agricultural Production & Handling B.V. (Netherlands) – the equipment manufacturer. The facility is scheduled to be commissioned in February 2021. In the future, it is planned to freeze berry crops grown in the company's own fruit and berry garden, which covers an area of 627 hectares, where apples, pears, plums, cherries, black and red currants, chokeberries, gooseberries, raspberries, and blueberries are grown.

By the way, today potatoes are the basis of the enterprise's economy. The profitability of their sales is over 20%. A large part of the harvest is shipped to Russia and Ukraine.

— In fact, we are engaged not only in agriculture but also in raw material processing. Production capacities allow us to produce 1 thousand tons of potato starch, 6 million liters of juices and nectars, and 810 thousand decaliters of fruit and berry wines annually. Thanks to close cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences, we receive planting material of high-quality varieties of Belarusian selection from scientists. For example, this year the yield of root crops was over 500 c/ha, while the average for the republic is 300 c/ha. Rapeseed, wheat, fruits, and berries also bring a good income, — said Anatoly Vasilievich.

Recently, the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, paid a working visit to the Tolochin Cannery to familiarize himself with the prospects for potato growing development, using the example of an enterprise that successfully masters modern technologies for growing, processing, and storing potatoes.

— In 2015, we commissioned a full complex for potato storage. Almost all technological operations are automated. Washed, dried, polished, and sorted potatoes are packaged into nets of various sizes, — noted Anatoly Anyukhovsky. — The Head of State was pleased with what he saw and urged other agricultural enterprises to adopt our experience. He supported our initiative to build another potato storage facility. He ordered us to be provided with two new domestically produced potato harvesters for experimental use — "Lid-
agroprommash" and "Gomselmash."
