Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets today at a meeting of the regional executive committee instructed the healthcare department to publish it, BELTA correspondent reports. In 2009, the region had the highest mortality rate in the republic - 16.2 ppm, and in January 2010, this figure was 17.9. The infant mortality rate increased, which in January of the current year was 5.8 ppm. For 2009, the natural population decline in the region amounted to minus 7365 people, and for January 2010 - minus 800 people. According to Yuri Derkach, head of the healthcare department of the regional executive committee, weak preventive work and insufficient responsibility for one's own health are one of the reasons for the increase in mortality in the region. According to the governor, the brochure should describe the real state of affairs with the demographic situation in the region, and explain what factors affect life expectancy and quality of life. In addition, at his suggestion, the regional television and radio company will shoot and show a documentary film on the same topic. "Intensive educational work is necessary. No volume of production of units and machines will replace the growing number of strollers on the streets," Alexander Kosinets is convinced. -0-
