Every 5th candidate for deputy in the Vitebsk region has opened a special election account

In the Vitebsk region, approximately every fifth candidate for deputy of local Soviets has exercised the right to form their own election fund to finance campaign expenses.

Candidates for a mandate can open only one special election account in the branches of Belarusbank. According to operational data from the bank's official website as of January 30, approximately 700 election accounts have been opened in the region.

This process is most active in Novopolotsk, where almost 80% of candidates for the city council are ready to attract additional resources for their election campaign. Among those running for the regional council, about 65% of candidates have opened election accounts, and for the Vitebsk city council – about 60%.

We remind you that the funds of candidates' own election funds should be used for campaign needs; material assistance from abroad is not permitted.

Funds are formed in the following amounts: for the regional council – up to 30 base units, for other councils – up to 10 base units at the expense of the candidate's own funds, from voluntary donations of citizens of Belarus and Russia (if they permanently reside in Belarus) – up to 2 base units (from each citizen). Another source of income is voluntary donations from legal entities (not exceeding 5 base units).
