The Vitebsk Regional Control Committee positively assesses the work of the housing and communal services this winter

February 5, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Vitebsk Oblast Committee for State Control positively assesses the work of the region's housing and communal services during the cold and snowy winter of 2009-2010. This was stated today at a press conference by the First Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Oblast Committee for State Control, Mikhail Agafonov, as reported by a BELTA correspondent. "The number of citizens' appeals to the Committee for State Control regarding the activities of housing and communal services has remained at the same level, which indicates the stable operation of utility services," said Mikhail Agafonov. At the same time, in the total volume of citizens' appeals to the Committee for State Control, the share of complaints about the activities of housing and communal services remains one of the highest - 34.5%. The largest number of complaints is related to capital repairs. According to Mikhail Agafonov, this is due to the high proportion of old housing, especially in Vitebsk, which requires significant investment to bring it into order. "It is not possible to carry out such repairs simultaneously due to funds," he stated. In 2009, the Oblast Committee for State Control received 594 written appeals from citizens, which is 100 more appeals than in 2008. Of these, 33 were repeated and 113 were collective. The number of appeals from legal entities to the Committee for State Control has increased. As a result of considering the appeals, economic sanctions totaling Br13.3 million were applied, 10 people were brought to administrative responsibility, 17 to disciplinary responsibility, and 2 criminal cases were initiated. -0-
