Grave robbers will be deprived of liberty
June 1, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The activities of two cemetery thieves have been stopped in the Vitebsk region, Natalya Fedorenko, Deputy Head of the Department for Supervision of Criminal Cases Investigation of the Investigative Committee of Belarus for the Vitebsk region, told a BELTA correspondent.
For three months (from August to October 2011), two brothers born in 1983 and 1991 were engaged in theft from the "Sokolniki-2" cemetery in the village of Sokolniki and the "Latyshi" cemetery in the agro-town of Tulovo. They stole everything they could from the graves: granite monuments and tomb vases, metal crosses, and even flower beds. At the same time, they subsequently tried to sell them off as new.
For theft committed on a large scale, one of the detainees, who had already been prosecuted for theft and illegal arms trafficking, was sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment, and his younger brother was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment. -0-
