A book about famous natives of Sennenshchyna will be released for the regional "Dazhynki" in the district center

One of the gifts for the guests of the regional "Dazhynki-2016" in Senno will be the book "They Were Born in Sennenshchyna", written by young historian Alexander Baranovsky.

The publication was printed by the VSU printing house named after P. Masherov in an edition of 159 copies and includes rare local history material about famous people of the district. In fact, it is a biographical reference book.

This is the second book by the 23-year-old graduate of the Faculty of History of Vitebsk State University, and now a master's student. The first one – "Palymya (Belitsa) of the history of the estate and village" – was published last year at his own expense and tells about one of the most famous manor complexes of Sennenshchyna. The historian is a native of the district center and has been interested in local history and collecting information about his small homeland since his school years.

The first drafts of the book appeared four years ago – during the celebration of the 570th anniversary of the first mention of Senno in the chronicle, an article by Alexander Baranovsky about ten remarkable people of the district was published in the district newspaper "Golos Sennenshchyny". Then – more.

Alexander worked with materials from the regional archive, the documentary chronicle "Pamyat", leafed through newspaper files, encyclopedias, found the necessary memoirs and recollections, and met with some of the heroes of the upcoming book. As a result, it includes 64 biographies of people who distinguished themselves in politics and state activities, sports, culture, and science.

Among them are Pyotr Masherov, Alexander Gorovets, Zair Azgur, Olympic silver medalist Viktor Kurentsov, GDR hero, diplomat Pyotr Abrosimov, former head of Belarusian Railways Yevgeny Volodko, People's Artist of the BSSR Zinaida Konopelko, poet, screenwriter Anatoly Velyugin.

Among the little-known natives of Sennenshchyna are Master of Applied Mathematics Ippolit Evnevich, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Pyotr Galuzo, Latvian poet and prose writer Eduard Salenieks.
