May 25, Polotsk /Corr. BELTA/. The book "Polotsk-Smolensk: Milestones of a Common Destiny" is a vivid testament to the common past, present and future, and the fraternal spiritual connection of the peoples of Belarus and Russia. This opinion was expressed to a BELTA correspondent by one of the book's authors, chief director of radio "Belarus", writer and poet Naum Galperovich, who is taking part in the celebration of the 1150th anniversary of Polotsk. Today, the presentation of the book "Polotsk-Smolensk: Milestones of a Common Destiny" (authors Naum Galperovich and Natalia Vanina) took place at the Museum of Belarusian Book Printing in Polotsk. It was published by "Pachatkovaya Shkola" Publishing House of the Ministry of Education of Belarus with the support of the Standing Committee of the Union State. The book is a kind of guide to Polotsk and Smolensk, and also tells about the history of these cities from their first mention in chronicles to the present day. Colorful illustrations introduce the reader to the sights, ancient monuments, and museum exhibitions of the two cities. "In this book, we wanted to emphasize the historical connection between our peoples, told about cultural and spiritual traditions, and dedicated a part of the book to modern cooperation in various fields within the framework of the Union State," said Natalia Vanina. By decision of the Standing Committee, part of the print run will be sent to libraries and educational institutions in Belarus, and part to Smolensk. "These books will be our gift to the cities for their anniversaries," said Deputy State Secretary, member of the Standing Committee of the Union State Ivan Bambiza to a BELTA correspondent. -0-
