"Book Bridges" will connect Vitebsk and Pskov

"Книжные мосты" соединят Витебск и Псков

"Book Bridges" will connect Vitebsk and Pskov, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by Tatyana Adamyan, Deputy Director of the V. Lenin Vitebsk Regional Library.

The joint project "Book Bridges" is being implemented by the V. Lenin Vitebsk Regional Library and the Pskov Regional Universal Scientific Library in accordance with a cooperation agreement signed by the institutions in 2010 for the purpose of mutual cultural enrichment, development of interstate information space, and promotion of professional development of partner library specialists.

From November 20-22, a delegation from the border Russian region will visit Vitebsk. "Their visit is one of the events of the 'Book Bridges' project and the most important November event for Vitebsk librarians," noted Tatyana Adamyan. The rich program for the Pskov delegation includes familiarization with the most important cultural sites of Vitebsk, the organization of work of the city's libraries, and participation in a round table discussion "Modern Libraries: Facets of Cooperation." The latter event is of particular interest to both sides, as it will allow colleagues to discuss innovations in librarianship, share their achievements, discuss current problems and issues, and develop an interaction plan for 2013.

In addition, the Pskov librarians will be presented with a bio-bibliographic index of the renowned Belarusian playwright Alexei Dudarev. The publication includes titles from over 1,000 sources related to the life and work of this author.

Tatyana Adamyan emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Vitebsk and Pskov libraries. "We have formed a well-coordinated system of mutual experience exchange in the library and information sphere, various areas of cultural activities, including the development of joint target and other programs, projects aimed at developing the cultural, informational, and educational potential of our regions. Joint events in the fields of library science, bibliography, and book science are regularly held. Discussing issues of mutual interest allows us to improve the professional level of library specialists and contributes to attracting readers," she noted.
