Confiscation of cars from drunk drivers will begin in 2013
Confiscation of vehicles from drunk drivers will begin in 2013, Prosecutor General of Belarus Alexander Konyuk told a BELTA correspondent.
The complex procedure for preparing the bill has been completed, and the draft has been submitted for consideration by the head of state. After that, it will be submitted for consideration by the deputies of the National Assembly, the Prosecutor General explained.
"The Prosecutor's Office insists that as soon as the fact of alcohol intoxication is confirmed for a person behind the wheel, the vehicle should be confiscated, and also advocates for stricter liability for the death of people. However, the implementation of these proposals will depend on the legislator," the Prosecutor General emphasized.
As previously reported, the Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus, together with the Ministry of Justice, prepared a bill proposing to confiscate vehicles from drunk drivers only within the framework of criminal liability.
