The Consul of the Republic of Latvia in Belarus intends to promote the development of tourism and cultural ties with the Polotsk district

Консул Латвийской Республики в Беларуси намерен содействовать развитию туризма и культурных связей с Полоцким районом

The Consul of the Republic of Latvia in the Republic of Belarus, Uģis Skuja, paid a two-day visit to the Polotsk region to get acquainted with its attractions and discuss the prospects for developing business and cultural ties.

At a meeting in the Polotsk District Executive Committee, the Consul was welcomed by the Chairman of the District Council of Deputies, Iosif Gribovich. The parties confirmed their intention to continue the active cooperation that has been established between the regions of Latvia and the Vitebsk region. Common historical roots, close proximity, and the desire of people to get to know each other better also contribute to this.

During the visit, Uģis Skuja visited the agro-ecotourism estate of the peasant farm "Kanoshi-agro," where he participated in a discussion of the results of the international project "Bella Cuisine" and the prospects for developing culinary tourism. He then visited an exhibition of Soviet-era banknotes and the private A. Pushkin Museum. At the "Luka" agro-ecotourism estate, he learned about the life of a Polotsk village.

The next day, the head of the diplomatic mission was joined by a delegation from the Consulate of the Republic of Latvia in Vitebsk. The guests were offered an extensive excursion program, including visits to the historical center of the city, the Art Gallery, the complex of the former Jesuit Collegium, St. Sophia Cathedral, the Holy Euphrosyne Monastery, and the "City of Masters" souvenir shop. The day concluded with an evening animation performance at the "Gasienda" agro-ecotourism estate. Participants of the historical reconstruction club "Polatski zviaz" demonstrated fragments of knightly duels and a fire show, offered archery, taught medieval dances, and served treats prepared according to medieval recipes.

"The impressions are the best. We were very pleased to learn more about the history of Polotsk and the region. Thank you very much for the hospitality and the excellently prepared events. I am convinced that our friendship has deep roots, and we should not abandon it," said Uģis Skuja before leaving for Vitebsk.

The Consul intends to promote the further development of tourism, fruitful cultural ties, and contacts between city self-governments. Work is already underway for the future. There are ideas for new routes and projects, which we will definitely share with our readers.
