Smugglers failed to transport a large batch of Belarusian cigarettes to Latvia

July 26, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Smugglers have once again tried to use gondola cars with coal to transport Belarusian cigarettes abroad. The attempt to move 19.5 thousand packs of cigarettes from the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Latvia was prevented by servicemen of the Polotsk Border Detachment, the head of the detachment's press service, Denis Glebko, told a BELTA correspondent.

During the inspection of a freight train at the Bigosovo station (Verkhnedvinsk district), 39 boxes of "Portal" cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps were found in a gondola car with coal. The seized cigarettes are valued at Br39 million. The persons involved in this offense are being identified.

This is not the first detention of large batches of cigarettes at the border. In May and June alone of the current year, servicemen of the Polotsk Border Detachment discovered more than 45 thousand packs of contraband cigarettes.-0-
