Smugglers attempted to send over four kilograms of raw amber from Vitebsk to Hong Kong.
— These were two international postal items. The goods were placed in colorful shopping bags. Inside them were rolls of paper napkins, which contained 62 and 86 objects of organic origin, — says Anastasia Volozhinskaya, chief inspector of the ideological work department of the Minsk Regional Customs. — Moreover, in one of the pieces of raw amber, our officers saw an insect about 20 mm long. In both cases, the senders — residents of Vitebsk — declared the goods as souvenirs.
According to preliminary estimates, the cost of amber found in the first postal item amounted to over 16 million Belarusian rubles; an expert examination is being conducted for the second.
Based on these facts, the customs has initiated administrative proceedings.
