A 'Space' Museum to Appear in the Vitebsk Region

The first museum of space exploration history in the region is planned to open at the Novkino Secondary School in Vitebsk District.

As reported by Svetlana Konstantinova, Deputy Director of the educational institution, the idea to create the museum was born after cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev, whose parents live in the regional center, visited the school last year.

Novkino is one of the few rural schools in Belarus with a modern planetarium. Additionally, a technical creativity club is active, and most importantly, enthusiasts who are passionate about their work are employed here. Among them is Vladimir Golubev, an excellent teacher and popularizer of astronomy from Vitebsk, who not only teaches at the Department of General Physics and Astronomy of PSU named after P. Masherov but has also been working with schoolchildren for a long time.

A classroom has been allocated for the museum, which is planned to be decorated with the help of students from the Art and Graphics Faculty of PSU named after P. Masherov. It will house several thematic compositions on the history of space exploration and our cosmonauts from the region.

The first unique exhibit is already there – Oleg Artemyev donated one of the spacecraft engine mechanisms that has been to space to the schoolchildren. Educators have also sought assistance from the famous Star City in Russia – the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. The Novkino school will also welcome any literature or astronomical instruments that concerned residents of Vitebsk wish to share.
