The Red Cross will teach the basics of first aid in kindergartens in Vitebsk and Senno

The Red Cross will begin teaching first aid basics in kindergartens in the Vitebsk region. This was reported to "Vitebskiye Vesti" by the chairperson of the regional organization of the Belarusian Red Cross Society, Galina Zhelanova.

The experimental project is being launched as part of the social program for public education "First Aid" and with the support of the Norwegian Red Cross. Vitebsk and Senno have been selected as pilot sites.

First, instructors and trainers will undergo training, and in September 2019, it is planned to start teaching the children.

The methodology was borrowed by Vitebsk public activists from their Norwegian colleagues. Using a special doll and toy medical supplies, children will be shown how to stop bleeding and other simple procedures that can save lives in emergency situations.

The Red Cross began teaching first aid skills to adults and schoolchildren. Last year alone, almost 400 residents of the region completed the course, and another 960 were familiarized with the methodology. Among them were teachers from 12 schools in Vitebsk, who in turn passed on vital knowledge to their students. And the young volunteers learned the lesson well. A team from Gymnasium No. 8 represented the region at an international first aid tournament in Daugavpils, Latvia, and took third place.

The Red Cross will continue this program in 2019. Moreover, it is planned to increase the number of instructors to reach a larger segment of the population.

The team of local volunteers was recognized by the Secretary General of the Belarusian Red Cross Society, Olga Mychko, at the summing up of the regional organization's work in Vitebsk. She also announced that first aid instructors and trainers from the region will be sent to the capital to work at the European Games 2019.

– Our organization is declared as a state partner in training volunteers in first aid for the II European Games. The Vitebsk regional organization is at the forefront of first aid training, so instructors and trainers from the northern region will also be involved in this activity, – said Olga Viktorovna.
