As previously reported, "Vitebskenergo" has concluded a contract for the construction of the Polotsk HPS with the Russian Open Joint Stock Company "Foreign Economic Association "Technopromexport" ("FEA "Technopromexport"), which won the tender announced by "Vitebskenergo".
In accordance with the terms of the contract, the Polotsk HPS hydro-node with a capacity of 22 MW will be built on the Western Dvina River by 2014. The cost of the work under the contract will be about $100 million. The supplier of hydro-units for the Polotsk HPS, based on the proposal accepted from "Technopromexport", will be the Czech company Mavel. A Kaplan PIT type straight-flow turbine will be installed at the hydro-node. According to the manufacturers, the design of this turbine should prevent oil from entering the river water.
The construction of the Polotsk HPS is the first stage in the creation of a cascade of four hydroelectric power stations on the Western Dvina. It will also include the Vitebsk, Beshenkovichi, and Verkhnedvinsk HPS. The total installed capacity of the four hydroelectric power stations will be 125-130 MW. -0-
