A large batch of ammunition from the Great Patriotic War has been neutralized in Vitebsk
February 11, Vitebsk / Sergei Kochetov - BELTA /. Almost 90 units of ammunition from the Great Patriotic War have been neutralized in Vitebsk, the information and public relations department of the regional Internal Affairs Directorate informed a BELTA correspondent.
The explosive objects were discovered during excavation work at the site of a house under construction on Chkalov Street. While preparing the foundation pit, construction workers stumbled upon metal objects resembling shells. Specialists from the sapper-pyrotechnic group of military unit 5524 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who arrived at the scene, determined that there were live Soviet-made "AO-8" aerial bombs in the ground. It is presumed that an airfield with infrastructure, including ammunition depots, was located here during the war, and the construction workers likely stumbled upon one of them.
The ammunition was transported to a safe location and destroyed. -0-
