A rabbit breeding club has opened for pensioners and disabled people in the Sharkovshchina district

Кружок кролиководства открылся для пенсионеров и инвалидов в Шарковщинском районе

This year, it was launched in the round-the-clock care unit for the elderly and disabled of the Territorial Center for Social Services of the population of the Sharkovshchina district. Pensioners are very happy about this. They speak with pride about their beloved pets, admiring their docile nature, beautiful coat color, and soft long fur.

In the spring, OJSC "Mezhany" of the Braslav district purchased 2 males and 10 females of the New Zealand, Californian, and Vienna Blue breeds. In a few months, their number has significantly increased. Today, there are more than 40 young individuals suitable for sale. 61-year-old Ivan Kucheryavy, who previously worked as a tractor driver in the farm for many years, constantly looks after the pets. He has a second group of disability and has been living in the unit since April 2006.

80-year-old Evlampiy Khokhlov has no less responsible occupation: he enthusiastically grows tomatoes in a greenhouse. Evlampiy Savelyevich collects a large harvest. Ripe juicy tomatoes are an integral decoration of the dining table both in summer and autumn.

In summer, the unit building is surrounded by lush greenery. Taisiya Zhojdik, who, despite her advanced age, not only takes care of houseplants but also grows flower seedlings for numerous flowerbeds from early spring, deserves no small credit for this. The well-maintained territory is decorated with small architectural forms, there is a garden, and a small nursery of coniferous plants. Blueberries, honeysuckle, black elderberry, hawthorn, raspberries, and much more also grow here. This year, a good harvest of sweet watermelons and melons was collected.

Representatives of the older generation are not used to sitting idle. Those whose health allows them provide feasible assistance in planting vegetables, harvesting, and tidying up.

The branch in the village of Dikevo has been in existence for 9 years. It provides excellent living conditions for 40 grandmothers and grandfathers. Bright rooms have been equipped, there is a library, a spacious hall with large televisions, etc. The average age of the elderly people living under one roof is 80 years. Some, while watching a television program, recall their past years, discuss various topics, while others meticulously knit patterns with knitting needles. In other words, there is no time for sadness.
