Pskov racers took home the main prize of the competition - the Vitebsk Cup, Vasily Korobov, chairman of the regional DOSAAF organizational structure, told a BELTA correspondent. The home team won bronze medals, falling behind not only the Pskov team but also the team from the Grodno region. In the individual standings among Vitebsk racers, Artyom Pashayev from Orsha performed most successfully, winning in the 50 cc motorcycle class. His uncle, Alexander Sazonovets, took second place in the 500 cc class, losing to Artyom Kuntsevich from the Brest region. Vitaly Makhnov and Evgeny Shabirzyalov from the Grodno region were the fastest in the 65 cc and 85 cc classes, respectively. Racers from the Minsk region also took home two main prizes in the individual standings: Vitaly Korostik in the "Hobby" class, and Sergey and Igor Osipovichi in the sidecar motorcycle races (up to 1000 cc). In the quad bike race (up to 700 cc), which was included in the motocross program for the first time, the victory was celebrated by Alexey Dyakov from Minsk. The traditional motocross in memory of Minay Shmyrev in Vitebsk, which the organizers decided to revive after a ten-year break for the 65th anniversary of Victory, attracted over 80 racers from all regions of Belarus, as well as from the Smolensk and Pskov regions of Russia. Athletes aged 7 to 55 participated in the suburban track races. Two heats were held in each motorcycle class. Following the competition, the winners and prize-winners were awarded cups and medals specially made for the revived races. The history of motocross races in the regional center dates back to 1975, when, for the 30th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, it was decided to organize competitions in memory of the famous partisan brigade commander. Over time, the tournament gained recognition among racers from all over the Soviet Union and became a favorite among Vitebsk residents. After the collapse of the USSR, the organizers faced a number of difficulties, but thanks to the enthusiasts of this sport, motocross races were held until 1999. The competitions were organized by the Vitebsk regional DOSAAF organizational structure and the Vitebsk City Executive Committee.
