The cultural capital of Belarus is preparing to host participants of the international plein air "Art-ego"
July 27, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Polotsk, the cultural capital of Belarus in 2010, is preparing to host participants of the international plein air painting event for artists from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, and Latvia "Art-ego," told BELTA correspondent Larisa Lysenko, head of the art gallery, a branch of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve.
The idea of the plein air event is embedded in its name, which can be translated as "personal art." Recognized figures in the art world have been invited to participate, including Vladimir Savich, Chairman of the Belarusian Union of Artists, and Iolanta Schmidtiene, Director of the Lithuanian Guild of Textile Artists. Eighteen distinctive artists – painters, sculptors, photographers, decorative and applied arts masters, and graphic artists – will work in Polotsk for two weeks. During this time, they are to create two works: one must be dedicated to Polotsk, and the second will be a unique composition on a free theme.
The opening of the plein air event will take place on July 31 with an introductory exhibition, where participants will present two of their works each. "Art-ego" will conclude on August 12, also with an exhibition showcasing the works created in Polotsk.
It is worth noting that the artists will make their creative process open. Anyone interested will be able to observe how a canvas is created and participate in master classes. However, the hot summer has introduced adjustments, and the plein air event, which implies working in natural light and conditions, i.e., outdoors, may take place in specially equipped workshops. -0-
