The "Rodina" cinema has reopened in Gorodok after reconstruction. The renovated institution has also received a new name – the "Gorodok" Cultural and Educational Center.
It now houses an exhibition hall and a 100-seat cinema hall, the district central library with departments for children's and youth literature, a legal information center, and a reading room. There is also space for a cafe.
This building in the very center of the city had not been used for about 20 years. There were proposals to demolish it and build a new one. However, it was decided to heed the opinion of the townspeople, for whom the "Rodina" cinema was associated with their youth. Moreover, it had become part of Gorodok's history. Architects from "Vitebskgrazhdanproekt," preserving the main external features of the building and even the old mural, redesigned it into a modern facility that harmoniously fits into the urban square's development.
18.7 billion rubles were spent on the reconstruction. OAO acted as the general contractor.
"StroyTreyst No. 9", other organizations also worked here. General construction work was completed several months ago, but it was decided to postpone the handover of the facility, which was part of the plan to prepare the town for the rural workers' holiday "Dazhynki", to bring everything to completion, including the installation of cinema and video equipment and the arrangement of library halls.– I am grateful to the townspeople for their patience, as they had to endure the inconvenconveniences associated with the reconstruction of many facilities. But today you have seen that everything was done for the people. The town is unrecognizable, it has become a beautiful, cozy, modern settlement that can be proud of, – said the Chairman of the Horadok District Executive Committee, Vasily Murenkov, at the opening of the cultural and educational center.
He emphasized the special role of the Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Kosinets, in the renovation of the district center, who, as Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, paid great attention to Horadok, and his decisive decision made it possible to carry out such a large-scale reconstruction of many city facilities.
The Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies, Alexander Atyasov, the Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Vladimir Terentyev, and the General Director of StroyTreyst No. 9, Valery Kormeshkov, came to share the holiday with the residents of the district center.
– This is a wonderful gift! The cinema hall is equipped with the best 3D equipment purchased in Belgium. There is no analogue in Belarus. In addition, a library and an exhibition hall are located here. I think this center will become a real hearth of culture and a favorite place for recreation for the residents and guests of Horadok, – noted Vladimir Terentyev.
A good number of adults and young townspeople came to the first holiday screening. As the center's director Ada Abramova said, films will be shown three times a day for now, and possibly more often in the future. Literary and musical evenings, and meetings with interesting people are also planned to be held in the cinema hall. The building will not be empty. The library opened here a week ago, and an influx of readers is immediately noticeable. Tickets for the cinema are also in demand, many buy them in advance to come to a convenient screening with the whole family and watch the film in good quality on the big screen. Such an opportunity has not been available in Gorodok for 20 years.
