Medical rehabilitation course and occupational therapy await residents of the Vitebsk LTP

March 25, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The first therapeutic and labor prophylactic center (TLPC) in the Vitebsk region opened today in Vitebsk, Richard Malets, head of the prevention department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, told a BELTA correspondent. The institution, designed for 400 people, was created on the basis of the former secondary school No. 13 on Gagarin Street. The new TLPC did not have to stand empty: on the very first day, 25 residents of the region suffering from alcohol dependence became its residents. In their new environment, these people will undergo a course of medical rehabilitation and occupational therapy. Physical labor in woodworking production will help them not only to think about their future but also to earn money, including for the maintenance of children. Ryszard Malets did not rule out the possibility that the Vitebsk TLPC would be filled in the near future. This is due to a significant number of alcoholics who often come to the attention of law enforcement agencies for disturbing public order or domestic violence. For example, last year alone, 803 residents of the Vitebsk region were sent to TLPCs in other regions of the republic. In less than three months of 2009, their number was about 300 people. About 4,000 people underwent voluntary inpatient treatment for alcohol dependence in 2008, and 1.7 thousand people in January-February of this year. -0-
