The "Phantom" Quadcopter – A Rotorcraft Assistant for Vitebsk Region Ecologists
This was announced by Yuri Korolev, Head of the Department of the Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
The winged assistant appeared a year ago and has significantly reduced the time for surveying territories and objects. A quadcopter can thoroughly examine an area of 100 hectares in five minutes. The battery of the "Phantom-4 Pro+" lasts for 20 minutes, its flight range is 7 km, and its operating altitude is up to 100 m (maximum 500 m).
The device transmits video and photo information to the control panel in online mode. It establishes a connection with nine satellites, remembers its landing location, and is equipped with sensors that detect obstacles. The drone allows access to hard-to-reach places and, if necessary, provides their precise coordinates.
The quadcopter is mainly used to monitor the implementation of measures for tidying up the land. This year, it monitored the results of work to remove hogweed Sosnowsky. Incidentally, the "Phantom" helped identify new locations where the invasive plant grows in Sennensky, Braslavsky, and Ushachsky districts. In the spring, during the fire-hazardous period, it was used to prevent fires in ecosystems.
Since the beginning of the year, over 300 territories and objects have been surveyed using the quadcopter, and 120 violations of environmental legislation have been identified.
