An Artificial Intelligence Laboratory has been established at Vitebsk State University.
The new laboratory is equipped with powerful computers and equipment. According to Elena Zalesskaya, Dean of the Faculty, this will allow the educational process to be as close as possible to the requirements of high-tech modern production. Among the tasks to be solved are the development of decision support systems for managing automatic loaders in warehouses, real-time analysis of large volumes of data from production line sensors, and the use of computer vision for controlling industrial robots.
The university's rector, Valentina Bogatyreva, noted that the university today is not just an educational institution, but also a research, social, and cultural center of the region. "VSU named after P.M. Masherov is developing within the concept of 'University 3.0', and soon we will be talking about 'University 4.0'. While preserving traditions, our university is keeping pace with the times," the rector emphasized.
Based at the laboratory, faculty members will conduct classes in specialized disciplines. These include algorithms and data structures, artificial intelligence methods, computer networks, pattern recognition, cluster analysis, and mathematical statistics. Employees of an IT company will organize elective training courses for everyone from the Vitebsk region on additional topics such as programming, data processing and analysis, and building effective algorithms for pattern recognition and equipment control. For the first time in Vitebsk, a course on "Artificial Intelligence" will be organized.
The laboratory was created in collaboration with a resident of the High-Tech Park, LLC "Lacit". The faculty has been cooperating with the company for several years. The company not only develops software but also actively automates production processes. This provides the Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technology with new opportunities and real-world production experience for student training.
