A virtual and augmented reality laboratory has been established at Vitebsk State University

A virtual and augmented reality laboratory will open at the Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov (VSU) on October 23, as reported by Elena Zalesskaya, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technologies of VSU.

This is the sixth joint educational and practical laboratory at VSU, where students master various specialties in the high-tech sector. The laboratory was created in cooperation with the IT company InnowiseGroup (LLC "Innovation and Solutions Factory").

The premises are equipped with 14 computers with high-performance video adapters, virtual reality systems, and augmented reality glasses. This enables 2D and 3D modeling, development of content for virtual and augmented reality glasses, and interactive applications and games.

One of the key objectives of the laboratory is the creation of a wide range of high-tech products used in innovative education, medicine, and the interactive entertainment industry.

IT company specialists will conduct electives, trainings, master classes, conferences, and seminars in the laboratory. They will cover additional programming topics, the construction of interactive user interfaces, image recognition and visualization, and more.

At the laboratory's opening, the capabilities of virtual and augmented reality technologies will be demonstrated. Currently, these technologies are widely used in medicine. Images of 3D models of damaged human internal organs and bones, obtained using X-ray, MRI, and CT scans, combined with augmented reality glasses, help visualize injuries in three dimensions. This allows surgeons to perform complex laparoscopic surgeries with minimal instrumental intervention.

In the future, scientific and production projects involving VSU faculty and students will be developed in the virtual and augmented reality laboratory. This will bring the educational process closer to real-world production and enable practice-oriented specialist training.
