Laboratory studies of wild boar carcasses yielded negative results

A few days ago, reports appeared on a regional Internet resource stating that several wild boar carcasses had been washed ashore in different places on the bank of the Western Dvina within the city of Vitebsk. Journalists unequivocally frightened people with the specter of African swine fever.

As reported by the chief veterinary physician of the Vitebsk region, A.M. Kozak, after collecting samples necessary for analysis, the carcasses were buried in compliance with the required safety measures.

Studies of the pathological material conducted by employees of the regional veterinary laboratory for the presence of ASF virus yielded negative results - the African swine fever virus was not detected in the deceased animals.

The presumed cause of death of the wild boars could be drowning while attempting to cross the river in winter. The fact that the boars died not 2-3 days ago, but a long time ago, is evidenced by the absence of bristly covering in some places on the carcasses.
