Latgalian artists will launch the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the creative association "Unovis" in Vitebsk
January 26, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Latvian artists will open a series of festive events in Vitebsk on January 27 in honor of the 90th anniversary of the creative association "Unovis" (affirmers of new art), the director of the "Vitebsk Center for Contemporary Art" museum, Valentina Kirillova, told a BELTA correspondent today.
The founders of new art were teachers and students of the Vitebsk People's Art School. Historians know the exact date of the creation of this association of innovators - February 14, 1920. "Unovis", headed by Kazimir Malevich, included I. Chashnik, V. Ermolaeva, E. Magaril, N. Suetin, L. Khidekel - artists whose work changed the visual perception of the environment and is recognized worldwide. Branches of "Unovis" were created in Moscow, Perm, Saratov, Smolensk. During 1920-1924, the Vitebsk committee of "Unovis" was the central association of creative forces.
The unique pedagogical system of education developed by the association's artists is still used today. Future artists are trained according to it in France, Germany, Poland, and Hungary.
The Vitebsk Center for Contemporary Art intends to dedicate the entire exhibition season of 2010 to this significant event. Under the motto "Dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Unovis," vernissages will be held by both established artists - members of the Belarusian Union of Artists, masters of the brush from Germany and Latvia, and emerging authors - students and schoolchildren. The traditional children's project "Perspective," which will also be dedicated to the association of avant-garde artists, promises to be large-scale this year. The Center for Contemporary Art will hold a scientific conference with the participation of avant-garde researchers.
The celebration of the 90th anniversary of "Unovis" will be kicked off by teachers and students of the Latgale branch of the Latvian Academy of Arts in Rezekne, who will present their works in Vitebsk. As Valentina Kirillova noted, the modern Latvian art school continues the best traditions of avant-garde art. The historical and cultural heritage of Vitebsk is closely linked with the history of the development of the Latvian school, and the names of Gilberg and Klutsis are inscribed in the common cultural history, the interlocutor added. -0-
