Latvian investor intends to revive the Sviatski noble estate in the Sennensky district
March 25, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A Latvian investor intends to revive the Svyatsky noble estate in the Sennensky district and create a cultural and business center there. A memorandum of intent has been signed between the Sennensky District Executive Committee and the foreign limited liability company "BelFutures," the chairman of the Sennensky District Executive Committee, Eduard Gerasimenko, told a BELTA correspondent.
In the village of Belitsa, at the end of the 19th century, there was the ancestral estate of the Svyatskys, wealthy and enterprising nobles. It is with their name that the legend of Napoleon's treasure is associated. Allegedly, one of the Svyatskys, Karl, searched for gold, precious stones, and the richest utensils weighing almost 800 poods, which the French emperor, shamefully leaving Moscow, drowned in the Stoyacheye or, as it is also called, the Semlevskoye Lake. According to legend, the landowner's search was successful, and his beautiful estate in Belitsa served as confirmation of this. Unfortunately, only the ruins of the owner's house with an octagonal tower and an overgrown, partially cut down park have survived to this day, the restoration of which requires significant funds, Eduard Gerasimenko said.
The Latvian investor was interested in the remnants of the estate as an object for creating a cultural and business center with a hotel, cafe, sauna, and hunting lodge. According to the interlocutor, the noble estate will be restored with the maximum possible approximation to the original. In April, survey work will begin, and scientists from Polotsk State University will start assessing the condition of the preserved parts of the house to determine the scope of work and costs for restoration. -0-
