The 'Khimik' Ice Palace in Novopolotsk has reopened after a major renovation

Ледовый дворец «Химик» в Новополоцке открылся после масштабной реконструкции
The "Khimik" Ice Palace in Novopolotsk has reopened after a large-scale reconstruction. It is the home venue for the hockey team of the same name. The opening was marked by a home game where HC "Khimik" played on their home ice for the first time after a long break, facing HC "Vitebsk".

For the residents of Novopolotsk, the opening of the renovated sports facility was a long-awaited event. The facility was built in 1994. Reconstruction was planned to start back in 2008, but due to a lack of funds, the repairs were postponed for almost 10 years.

The process gained momentum largely thanks to the involvement of the Head of the Administration of the President of Belarus and former mayor of the city, Natalya Kochanova, who visited the sports facility in her new capacity.

Then, in 2018, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree on the reconstruction of the ice arena. And the construction work gained an intensive pace.

The general contractor was OJSC "Stroitelno-Montazhnyy Trest №16, Novopolotsk".

The arena is now unrecognizable, writes "SB". The training base for the professionals of "Khimik", the pupils of the children's sports school, and a favorite recreation spot for many Novopolotsk residents looks its best.

Modern LED lighting has been installed, and an electronic scoreboard has appeared, lists Oksana Akutenok, Head of the Department for Organizational and Personnel, Legal Work and Public Relations of the sports club "Khimik":

— An efficient ventilation system has been installed, and fans can appreciate the completely updated stands with comfortable seating. In addition, the gyms and the administrative building have undergone renovation...

An original gift for all fans of "Khimik" was the presentation of a hockey museum in the ice palace. Among the exhibits dear to the hearts of athletes are old game jerseys, pucks, and photographs. And, of course, sticks – for example, those of famous fellow countrymen who brought glory to their hometown – Belarusian hockey players Sergei and Andrei Kostitsyn.
