The Vitebsk region forestry service has switched to an enhanced work regime

The Vitebsk region forestry service has switched to an enhanced work regime due to numerous dry vegetation fires, the Vitebsk State Production Forestry Association (GPPLHO) informed a BELTA correspondent.

The set of measures that the association's employees will carry out to supervise fire safety in forests includes ground route patrolling, large-scale information and awareness-raising work, and a number of measures for the fire-prevention arrangement of forests. In forestry enterprises and forestries, the state forest guard will be on duty on working and non-working days, the duration of which will be regulated taking into account the degree of fire hazard.

"Currently, the main danger to forests is agricultural fires in fields when last year's grass is set on fire. Uncontrolled burning of dry vegetation poses a serious threat to both the population and forest stands adjacent to agricultural land," the association emphasized. The Vitebsk GPPLHO reminds citizens that administrative liability in the form of a fine ranging from 10 to 40 basic units is provided for these actions (currently, 1 basic unit is Br25.5). With the establishment of the fire-hazardous period, one should also remember to observe elementary safety rules in forests: fires should not be made in young coniferous stands, if a fire is made, the burning process must be constantly monitored, and after that, it must be extinguished until the fire is completely out.
