Vitebsk region forestry enterprises plan to export about 2,000 New Year trees to Russia
Forestries of the Vitebsk region plan to export about 2 thousand fir trees to Russia during the pre-New Year days, Oleg Gritskevich, leading engineer for secondary forest use and subsidiary agriculture of the association, told a BELTA correspondent.
The first batch of trees (300 fir trees with a total cost of 1.5 thousand euros) was sent to St. Petersburg this week by the Glubokoye Experimental Forestry. The Liozno Forestry will ship 500 trees to Bryansk. Negotiations on supplies are also underway with other forestries of the region.
Active sales of fir trees have also begun in the Vitebsk region. The enterprises of the Vitebsk State Production Forestry Association have already sold 2.6 thousand New Year trees worth over Br80 million to various enterprises, organizations, cultural and educational institutions, and other spheres. In total, over the remaining days of December, forestries plan to sell more than 40 thousand trees to the population, including 500 blue spruces in tubs from the Glubokoye Experimental Forestry. "The latter are in particular demand, as after the New Year holidays they can well wait for spring on the balcony, and then decorate the dachas of townspeople. At last year's auction, the entire volume of blue spruces in tubs prepared for sale (more than 100) was sold in a matter of hours," noted Oleg Gritskevich.
Mass sales will be held in the region on December 22, 23, 29, and 30. Sales will be carried out in all cities, district centers, agro-towns, and large settlements. In Vitebsk, the network of Christmas tree markets includes 19 points covering the entire city, including new housing developments. The largest Christmas tree markets will be located on Lenina Street, at the Smolensk and Polotsk markets, and on Proletarskaya Square.
The cost of the main New Year attribute up to 1 m will be Br40 thousand, 1-2 m - Br50 thousand, 2-3 m - Br75 thousand, 3-4 m - Br122 thousand, 4-5 m - Br190 thousand.
Oleg Gritskevich also reminded about the responsibility for illegal logging of trees. In order to protect fir plantations, forests will be patrolled in the last decade of December. In addition to forestry workers, the raid groups will include employees of the traffic police, tax authorities, the regional committee for natural resources and environmental protection, and other interested departments.
