Price liberalization in Belarus will not cause price growth - Ministry of Economy /updated/
February 28, Minsk / Liliya Krapivina - BELTA /. Price liberalization in Belarus will not cause price growth. This was stated today to journalists by Igor Fomin, Director of the Price Policy Department of the Ministry of Economy of Belarus, commenting on Decree No. 72 of February 25, 2011 "On Certain Issues of Price (Tariff) Regulation in the Republic of Belarus," BELTA correspondent reports.
"We do not expect a sharp increase or decrease in prices," said Andrei Fomin. Currently, there are no grounds to believe that the cancellation of certain conditions will cause panic demand for goods or provoke inflation.
Igor Fomin explained that there is demand-pull inflation, cost-push inflation, and inflation expectations. "If we ourselves do not inflate inflationary expectations (which may be beneficial to someone), as is currently happening with buckwheat groats, then I do not think there will be a significant increase in inflation," said the department director. Inflation will be controlled because state regulation of prices for socially significant goods is maintained. -0-
