Favorite childhood toys of Vitebsk residents are presented at an exhibition in the city's literary museum
May 29, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Residents of Vitebsk's favorite toys became the basis for an exhibition dedicated to the International Children's Day, which opened today at the city's literary museum, the cultural institution informed a BELTA correspondent.
The exhibition features wooden rocking horses, a 50-year-old rag Petrushka surrounded by three modern Barbie dolls, two Olympic teddy bears, bunnies, foxes, naked dolls and matryoshka dolls, handmade dolls sewn from fabric and knitted from yarn, and a toy train. Most of the toys are accompanied by photographs and stories of their owners.
The collection of 13 dolls in Ukrainian, Tajik, Estonian, Belarusian, Turkmen costumes and national clothes of other former Soviet republics deserves special attention. The owner of this unique collection, who was married to a military man, had to travel around the world at one time. In every place she stayed, she tried to buy a couple of such dolls as a souvenir. The woman's sons paid more attention to toy cars and other "boyish" toys, so the dolls were preserved. After the exhibition closes, the collection will be donated to the museum, the staff said.
In addition, the exhibition features stuffed animals from the museum's collection - elephants, dogs, cats, and other animals loved by children.
At the opening of the exhibition, the youngest residents of Vitebsk, who entrusted their friends to the museum, were awarded honorary diplomas and toy gifts. All children present at the event received paper cranes as gifts. And the actors of the "Lyalka" theater gave them a puppet show.
After the exhibition closes, all toys will be returned to their young and adult owners in perfect condition. -0-
