The first year of the five-year plan in the region showed positive dynamics in most socio-economic indicators. All industries worked with profit and positive sales profitability. Enterprises in woodworking, electrical engineering, machine tool building, light and food industries continue to increase production volumes. "A great deal of work has been done to improve the efficiency of the agro-industrial complex through the development of integrated formations based on four large processing enterprises. Technical re-equipment is being carried out, more than five hundred units of equipment have been purchased this year, and sown areas are expanding," noted Nikolai Sherstnev.

In 2016, over Br1.6 billion was invested in the region's economy, which, according to the governor, is a large sum, but insufficient. The implementation of major projects by the holding company "Belorusskaya Kozhevenno-Obuvnaya Kompaniya "Marko", Orsha Linen Mill, "Naftan" and others continues. Priority attention is paid and will be paid to employment issues and the creation of new jobs. Last year, 371 enterprises and production facilities in the fields of industry, agriculture, trade, and services started operating in the region, which resulted in the employment of more than 5,000 citizens.
