The lion cub from Kaliningrad has safely arrived at its new home in Vitebsk

October 14, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A lion cub from Kaliningrad arrived safely in Vitebsk today, Director of the Vitebsk Zoo Alexey Andreikov told a BELTA correspondent. The ten-month-old native of the Kaliningrad Zoo had to endure not the easiest day of his life: during the day he flew by plane to Minsk, and then he was transported over 200 km by a cargo minivan to Vitebsk. According to Alexey Andreikov, the king of beasts feels quite satisfactory after such a journey. However, the young lion will be in quarantine for a month. It was decided to name the new zoo resident Mark in honor of the company "Marko", which sponsored this purchase. For more than 20 years, a lion named Rigus lived in the Vitebsk zoo, but age took its toll, and the city favorite passed away in 2009. And now, a well-known enterprise in Belarus decided to give the children of Vitebsk a lion, first and foremost. By the way, another sponsor, the transport company "Taxi-Blues", helped to deliver him to the city. Mark will live in a spacious heated enclosure. The zoo hopes that the lion will not be bored alone for a long time. It is possible that sponsors will help to acquire a female companion for him. The search for a lioness has already begun. The Vitebsk Zoo has over fifty species of animals, birds, and reptiles. Among the latest acquisitions of the zoo are spiny mice, a royal lampropeltis albino, and a she-wolf - all of them were donated to the zoo. -0-
