A large-scale reconstruction will be carried out in Vitebsk
April 30, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A large-scale reconstruction will be carried out in Vitebsk. This was announced today at a meeting of the working group on the improvement of the regional center by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets, BELTA correspondent reports.
A large volume of work is to be done on the reconstruction and improvement of the main city highways, parks and squares, repair of housing stock and courtyards, cultural facilities, lighting of Vitebsk, as well as facilities not belonging to the city.
Significant changes will affect the historical center of the city. Thus, Suvorov Street will become a kind of Vitebsk Arbat with numerous souvenir shops, cozy cafes and bars, various retail and service facilities, and galleries. To accommodate all these facilities, it is planned to buy out part of the premises from the residents living on the first floors of residential buildings on this street. Local authorities are ready to offer people equivalent exchange. A number of government offices will also be relocated. For example, a new building is already being constructed for the KGB. The former Governor's House will house the Museum of the Vitebsk Region. The Governor's Park will be revived on the site of the zoo, loved by the townspeople, which will soon move to more spacious areas in the Park named after the Red Army.
A pedestrian tourist route will appear along the Western Dvina along the entire historical part of Vitebsk. A water route along this river will become its peculiar double, which will cover the territory from the memorial to the liberator soldiers on Victory Square to the Park named after the Red Army. Two motor ships are planned to be purchased for organizing water excursions.
The center of Vitebsk has already changed its registration. Now it is officially assigned to Victory Square, where all cultural and mass events will be held after reconstruction, and it is planned to restore the St. Nicholas Church on Freedom Square, which previously existed on this site. With its revival, the historical center of Vitebsk will become whole and beautiful, Alexander Kosinets is confident.
"To bring order to Vitebsk, a large amount of work needs to be done. According to preliminary estimates, over Br801 billion is required for these purposes. The final amount will be known after the design and estimate documentation is prepared. Therefore, all business entities located here, regardless of ownership, will be involved in the improvement of the city," the head of the regional executive committee emphasized. -0-
