The mass harvesting of grain will begin in the Vitebsk region in 3-4 days

The mass harvesting of grain in the Vitebsk region will begin in 3-4 days. This was announced by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, during a republican conference call on the 2017 harvest.

"The harvesting campaign in the Vitebsk region is always challenging. This year is no exception. But the grain has grown well, especially in the eastern part of the region. In the western districts, the situation is worse: a lot of areas have been waterlogged," the governor stated. "We plan to harvest at least 1 million 100 thousand tons of grain. This is the minimum that is currently in the fields. Our staff will make every effort to harvest this grain on time and ensure its quality." The head of the region emphasized the importance of organizing the harvest in the shortest possible time. This will allow the region to clear the fields and optimally prepare the land for sowing winter crops, thus laying a good foundation for next year's harvest. "This is extremely important for us, and we are particularly focusing on it," added Nikolai Sherstnev.

It was noted that the Vitebsk region has problems with the readiness of equipment and drying facilities. It was also emphasized that the region has practically no fertilizers to properly prepare the soil for sowing winter crops. Reporting on the situation in the region at the conference call, the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee assured that the region would mobilize its forces and do everything possible to harvest the grain from the fields.

"This year, the region is 8-10 days behind with the harvest, which is about 20% of the harvested area. For us, this is not just a problem, it is a catastrophe. Because all types of work are piling up (harvesting rapeseed, preparing soil for sowing winter crops, and so on). We will start mass harvesting on Sunday. Indeed, it will not be easy. But do not worry about the Vitebsk region. We will do everything to harvest the crop. I promise and guarantee this. The equipment and complexes will be ready, and the state order will be fulfilled. All this will be done," the governor assured.

He also voiced a problem that is extremely relevant for the region. "There is fuel for the harvesting. But since we have a backlog of work, for the entire complex of this, it is clearly

not enough. There is a deficit that hinders agricultural work," Nikolai Sherstnev said. He asked for help in solving the problem and supplying fuel and lubricants and fertilizers to the region on a deferred payment basis.
