The mass harvesting of grain in the Vitebsk region will begin 10 days earlier than last year
July 19, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. Mass harvesting of grain and leguminous crops in the Vitebsk region will begin on July 20, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the regional executive committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
Dry and hot weather contributed to the harvesting campaign in the region starting 10 days earlier compared to 2009. Today, almost all districts have joined the harvesting season. As of July 19, grain and leguminous crops have been mowed on an area of about 11.4 thousand hectares in the region, which is 2.5% of the total harvesting area. 34.1 thousand tons of grain have been threshed with an average yield of 30.3 centners per hectare. In Orsha, Beshenkovichi, Chashniki and Dokshitsy districts, the area of mowed grain is approaching 5%. So far, the highest yield (40 centners per hectare) has been obtained in the farms of the Orsha district, and in eight other districts, the yield has exceeded 30 centners per hectare. With the start of mass harvesting, about 2 thousand harvesters will be working in the fields.
All districts of the region have started working on flax fields, the total area of which this year is 18.7 thousand hectares. In total, flax has been pulled on an area of almost 1.3 thousand hectares, or 7% of the total flax sown area.
Farms in the Dubrovno district were the first in the region to complete the harvesting of winter rapeseed, threshing almost 6.5 thousand tons with a yield of 16 centners per hectare. Gorodok, Orsha and Tolochin districts are close to completing this work, where more than 90% of the areas allocated for winter crops have been harvested. In total, winter rapeseed has been harvested in the region on an area of almost 35.5 thousand hectares (about 80% of the total area), with more than 42.7 thousand tons threshed at an average yield of 12 centners per hectare.
The region continues to procure feed from the second cutting of grasses. As of July 19, about 707 thousand tons of feed units have been procured in total, with a feed provision of 15.3 centners of feed units per conventional head.
