Craftsmen from the Vitebsk region, Minsk, and Mogilev will present their works at a patchwork quilting competition in Vitebsk
Masters from half of the districts of the Vitebsk region, as well as from Minsk and Mogilev, will present their works at the patchwork competition festival "Zdravnevskaya Palitra-2015" in Vitebsk, as reported by the regional methodological center of folk art.
This regional competition festival is held annually with the aim of developing national artistic traditions in decorative and applied arts, and enriching the national features of patchwork with modern trends. This year's competition is called "Light of the Land". The best works in patchwork technique have been presented since September in the exhibition halls of the regional museum of local lore and the regional methodological center of folk art (OMCNT). Works from Vitebsk, Minsk, Mogilev, as well as masters from Centers (Houses) of Crafts from Liozno, Verkhnedvinsk, Shumilino, Dubrovno, Miory, Dokshitsy, Gorodok, Novopolotsk, Sharkovshchina, and Glubokoye are on display. Students from Vitebsk universities and colleges with art departments (specialties) are also participating in the exhibition, learning from the experience of folk masters.
Organizers note that an important task is to foster interest in the artistic heritage of Ilya Repin, as well as to provide aesthetic education for the younger generation based on the traditions of folk art. Specifically for this purpose, master classes on creating three-dimensional and flat items, in art quilt and mixed techniques, will be held today in the exhibition hall of OMCNT. At 14:00, the festival will move to the Repin Museum-Estate "Zdravnevo". Here, guests and participants can expect an excursion, a visit to the patchwork exhibition, a tasting of national cuisine, performances by folk music groups, and fashion shows from the Vitebsk region.
