The IBRD allocated 16.6 million euros for the modernization and reconstruction of 30 schools in the Vitebsk region

Using loans from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the Vitebsk region intends to reconstruct and modernize 30 secondary education institutions in 2021-2022, reported Dmitry Khoma, head of the main department for education of the regional executive committee.

The IBRD allocated 16.6 million euros for 30 facilities, of which over 7.5 million euros have already been utilized. "Today, repairs have been completed or are ongoing in 27 educational institutions. We have set ourselves the goal, despite the bank's program being designed for 2021-2025, to complete the main work this year. Three schools will remain for 2022," noted Dmitry Khoma.

He also mentioned that extensive repair work has been carried out in the region in preparation for the new academic year. Educational institutions are ready to receive children, and sufficient equipment has been purchased. "This year, 114,923 children have started school, which is 1,000 more than last year. 12,375 children entered the first grade," added the head of the main department for education of the regional executive committee.

There are 321 secondary education institutions operating in the Vitebsk region. 33 new buses have been acquired for transporting rural children, bringing the total number in the region to 287. The vehicle fleet has been updated by almost 100% in recent years.
